Toponymy :

“The toponymy of Parent identifies a railway station and a post office. It honours the memory of Simon?Napoléon Parent (1855-1920), mayor of Québec City from 1894 to 1905 and the province’s premier from 1900 to 1905.”

Description:

Surrounded by lakes and a forest, Parent is the gateway to a vast backcountry where numerous outfitters operate. A refuelling point for hunting and fishing enthusiasts, Parent is also an important juncture in the Haut-Saint-Maurice snowmobile and ATV network. Snowmobile trail #83 crosses the territory.

Montagne du Radar :

Located approximately 5 km (3 mi.) from Parent, at the radar base—a former military site that is today dismantled. In clear weather, the summit provides exceptional views extending 20 km (12 mi.) in any direction.

The Parent fire station :

This administrative heritage building houses the municipal offices of the Parent sector for the City of La Tuque, in addition to serving as the local fire station.

Regional camping rustic :

Parent’s regional rustic campground has 30 wooded sites.

Clova :

Approximatel 90 km (55 mi.) west of Parent, this hamlet is absolute heaven for outdoor enthusiasts.

Rivière Bazin :

A canoe-camping route, the Bazin has been surveyed and mapped by the Fédération québécoise du canot et du kayak (Québec canoeing and kayaking federation). The river features many rapids along with the vestiges of a decommissioned hydroelectric plant and dam.
