City of La Tuque, unorganized territories Imprimer Envoyer

The unorganized territories (territoires non organisés or TNOs) account for most of the surface area of the City of La Tuque. Consisting of vast stretches of forest interspersed with lakes and rivers, the TNOs are home to most of the region’s outfitters and ZECs. Several hamlets lie along the region’s two Canadian National Railway (CNR) lines.

A major local attraction is the Gouin reservoir: an immense span of water covering 1,862 km2 (720 sq. mi.) that was created by the dam of the same name. The reservoir is the source of the Saint-Maurice, which travels a total distance of 565 km (350 mi.) before ending in Trois-Rivières. Accessible via roads R0-450 (10) and 451 (22) to Parent, the reservoir lets Hydro-Québec regulate the flow of the Saint-Maurice. Some two dozen outfitters are located around the area’s many bays; some offer the original accommodation concept of houseboat stays. A forest map can be obtained at certain outlets in the City of La Tuque for a minimal fee.

Gouin reservoir

The Gouin reservoir is a community wildlife area (aire faunique communautaire or AFC), a public body of water whose exclusive fishing rights are leased to the community. Its management is entrusted to a non-profit corporation. To fish in the reservoir, you must obtain permission from the corporation and pay a fee.
