Below is a brief taste of what’s in store...

In the early 1600s, the fur trade was not only an important economic activity, but also a means used for political and scientific ends. Indeed, the establishment of links with the First Nations communities, the export of goods and the colonization of the territory remained key to the sustainability of the fur trade. The Mauricie region was in no way immune to the ferment generated by the fur trade: bathed by the waters of the Saint-Maurice river basin, the region was particularly rich in beaver.
At the time, the Parc des chutes de la Petite rivière Bostonnais was the site of a fur trading post. Today, the interpretation centre brings to life the Euro-Canadian occupation of the region through three chronological periods:

Circuit du Coureur des bois
Relive a moment of history as you track down the answers to the “coureur des bois circuit quiz.” On this thematic route, follow the walking trails in the Parc des chutes de la Petite rivière Bostonnais and relive the history of the coureurs des bois, Québec’s first colonial fur traders.
The circuit starts at the fur trade interpretation centre and ends at the tourist information centre.
Before you start, pick up the companion guide at either centre and plot your route. As you travel the circuit, 27 interpretive panels will plunge you into the memories of a bygone era.
Don’t forget to put your answers into a “coureur de bois contest” entry form!
